Ward D By Freida McFadden Synopsis
As provided by Author:
medical student Amy Brenner is spending the night on a locked psychiatric ward. Amy has been dreading her evening working on Ward D, the hospital’s inpatient mental health unit.
There are very specific reasons why she never wanted to do this required overnight rotation. Reasons nobody can ever find out.
And as the hours tick by, Amy grows increasingly convinced something terrible is happening within these tightly secured walls. When patients and staff start to vanish without a trace, it becomes clear that everyone on the unit is in grave danger.
Amy’s worst nightmare was spending the night on Ward D. And now she might never escape.
Plot
The plot of ward D was interesting. There wasn’t an easy to guess ending. While reading ward D I kept thinking ” I got it shes actually a killer” but I of course was wrong.
The pacing of this book was good. not too fast and not too slow. Fast enough that it doesn’t get boring and slow enough so that it doesn’t feel rushed.
In Ward D the story goes back and forth with Amy’s flashbacks that gives insight and contribute to the plot. When all the pieces start clicking together the details in the flashbacks makes more sense on why she didn’t want to be there in the first place.
Thoughts On ward D
My rating on this book was strictly off enjoyment.I enjoyed reading this book because it was a nice short psychological thriller. It was easy to read and understand.
I don’t know a lot about mental illnesses as I’m not a doctor or therapist so I can’t really say if they are depicted accurately in this book. I’ve seen many people say that the illnesses in characters aren’t described correctly. And as I said I’m not a psychologist so I don’t know but the characters and their behaviors didn’t seem consistent throughout the book.
Characters
One of the most important things about the book: characters. In Ward D the characters were terrible! They weren’t likeable at all. This may be a small spoiler but all of the characters even the main one needed to be locked up in Ward D.
It’s insane how Amy got her happy ending and she didn’t deserve one. The characters specifically Amy was just like all the other protagonists in Freida McFadden’s books. They all either need to be locked up or in a mental institution. Overall I just hate how there’s no character complexity.
Recommendation
I would recommend this book to anyone who just needs a palate cleanser. If you just need something short and easy to read this is for you. For example if you’ve just read a book that you had to use 100% to read.
I would not recommend this book if you are looking for a book with a complex plot and characters.
Conclusion
I overall did enjoy reading this book as it is not really a complex book as I mentioned its very simple. I originally rated this book 5 stars going based on my pleasant experience and hard to guess ending. But as I’ve dissected this book in this rating, based on the characters, writing, and plot my rating has changed to 3.7/5 stars.
