Never Lie By Freida Mcfadden review

Never Lie by Freida McFadden is another amazing psychological thriller by Freida Mcfadden. if your looking for a good, suspenseful, twisty thriller then this book is for you. lets dive into what made this book a 5 star read!

Never Lie By Freida McFadden Overview

overview as provided by author

Newlyweds Tricia and Ethan are searching for the house of their dreams.

But when they visit the remote manor that once belonged to Dr. Adrienne Hale, a renowned psychiatrist who vanished without a trace four years earlier, a violent winter storm traps them at the estate. With no chance of escape until the lizard comes to an end.

In search of a book to keep her entertained until the snow abates, Tricia happens upon a secret room, one that contains audio transcripts from every single patient Dr. hale has ever interviewed. As Tricia listens to the cassette tapes, she learns about the terrifying chain of events leading up to Dr. Hales mysterious disappearance.

Tricia plays the tapes one by one, late into the night with each one, another shocking piece of the puzzle falls into place, and Dr,Adrienne Hales web of lies slowly unravels.

writing

Never Lie was set at a good pace. It switched from past to present from Adrienne’s and Tricia’s point of view. I loved how Mcfadden included transcripts within this book as Tricia listens to them. Its as if your their listening along side Tricia.( at least that’s what it felt like for me) getting to read from either point of view readers are able to follow along and learn how both characters past and present are interlinked.

Plot (Twists)

the reason this book was a 5 star read for me is because the ending was not what I was expecting. this would be my fifth ( I think) book I’ve read by Freida and every single time I think I figured it out! I know how this is gonna end it was her husband!” but nope. not even close she always manages to think outside of the box. I for sure thought Tricia’s husband was up to something. literally in the first half of the book all signs were pointing to him . but I once again was tricked by freida.

characters

I’ve noticed this in all of Freida’s books, the main characters are always portrayed as innocent. And then at the end its revealed they’re not innocent, like at all . They either need to be locked up or in a mental institution.

Freida has a way of tricking readers by portraying characters one way and then doing a whole 360 in the last 50 pages. I think she does this so the huge twists aren’t spoiled or guessed. An I guess it does work. but like some of her other books the main character Tricia is average. She isn’t really a character someone would like but she also isn’t a character people would hate. She doesn’t really have much character.( referring to before the big reveal)

Never Lie By Freida Mcfadden Conclusion

So to conclude this review never lie by Freida Mcfadden does have its flaws. like the characters not being as developed ( until its revealed that there are total psychopaths). But this is a cozy, short psychological thriller to read. If your just looking for a good murder mystery to read in 1 day this is perfect for you. But if your wanting something more with a bigger world and larger range, I recommend looking elsewhere.

The characters and the writing however did not change my rating. I had a good time reading this and was thoroughly shocked the entire time so therefore my rating is 5 stars!
