Ruthless Vows (letters of enchantment book #2)

Ruthless Vows is the second book in the Letters of Enchantment duology by Rebecca Ross. It takes off where the main characters left off in Book 1, Divine Rivals. Now, was it as good as the first book? Did it live up to the hype? Was the wrap-up satisfying? Well, let’s see.

Ruthless Vows Overview

2 weeks have passed since the events that happened in divine rivals. Iris has been separated from her (Newly) husband. she is devastated on the turn out of the attack and is trying to find her way back to Roman.

Roman has woken up in Dacre’s realm. His memory is in shambles and he can’t remember anything from his past, not his name not even Iris. Roman is then forced to write articles for Dacre to tell his side of the story.

He then starts receiving mysterious letters in his wardrobe from a pen pal (Iris, but he doesn’t know that). as his memories start coming back he has to make a choice, help stand with dacre, the god that healed him. or go against said God and follow his gut.

writing

The story line was well paced just like the first book. it does have dual point of view switching from iris to Romans point of view nearly each chapter. normally I would hate this as I mentioned in a previous post but in this case it’s needed because these lovers were separated nearly the whole book.

romance

The story line felt more focused on the ongoing war between the gods. And I also didn’t love how they were separated basically the whole book. but I get it, its for the plot. But there were some romantic moments in this book like when Roman started getting his memories back. Here’s some quotes from Ruthless Vows by Rebecca Ross:

“how I love to read your words and hear the thoughts that sharpen your mind. And how I would love to be on my knees before you now, surrendering to you and you alone.”

“And he thought, there is no magic above or below that will ever steal this from me again.”

“i pray that my days will be long at your side.

let me fill and satisfy every longing in your soul.

may your hand be in mine, by sun and by night.

even then, may I find your soul still sworn to mine.”

chills, literal chills

plot twists

In reading “Ruthless Vows,” I found myself waiting for the electric jolt of a good plot twist—those moments that take your breath away, leaving you reeling in the wake of their unexpectedness. Alas, such occasions were scarce. A romantic fantasy thrives on upheavals that stem from betrayal and surprise, for it is these elements that forge a story into a memorable experience. How thrilling it would have been if the protagonists had experienced the sting of treachery by a confidante, a twist that would have injected that much-needed adrenaline rush and sent shock waves through the heart of the story. This, I believe, was a missed opportunity to ascend to greatness, making “Ruthless Vows” perfect!

characters

The main characters, Iris and Roman, were well developed. They were only 18 but seemed much older. the events and challenges they went through really made them grow up and mature faster. The side characters were great too! Not as developed as the main characters of course but they were like-able.

Don’t even get me started on forest and Sarah.

“Even then, Forest never let go of her hand.”

if you know, you know.

conclusion

Overrall I really did enjoy ruthless vows by Rebecca Ross. It’s the perfect new adult romantic fantasy to read! its enemies to lovers, has a heart warming romance, a good plot, and amazing strong characters. perfect for readers who want to read a romantic fantasy with no spice so it’s also good for young adults. ruthless vows did lack in plot twists and upheavals but the amazing romance between iris and romance sort of makes up for it. that being said just as I rated divine rivals, I rated Ruthless Vows a crisp 5/5 stars!!!
