Gild Book 1( The Plated Prisoner Series)

Gild by Raven Kennedy is the first book in the Plated Prisoner series. It is very popular on BookTok, which prompted me to read it. A lot was going on. I mean, it was… okay.

Gild Book 1( The Plated Prisoner Series) Overview

gild by raven Kennedy is a fantasy romance novel that follows the story of Aurelia, a woman turned into gold by King Midas. She is kept in a cage, only to be looked at, known as the king’s favorite. When Aurelia is let out of her cage, she realizes the world outside is much worse than her gilded cage.

Thoughts And Rating

First to start off, I did not like Aurelia’s character. She was so naive and desperate for attention, it was really annoying. She literally thought she was better than anyone else. This may have to do with the fact that she basically grew up in a cage, but still. This book is portrayed as a fantasy romance, but throughout the book, I didn’t find any romance at all, just explicit scenes and Aurelia following King Midas around like a love-sick puppy.

The whole ribbons coming from her spine thing kind of threw me off. Like RIBBONS???? RIBBONS??? I am not a fan of this detail. One minute they’re soft as a feather and the next they can lift a whole man??

After I got through the first half of the book, it did start to get more interesting. There is a twist and something that’s revealed about Arura after she is let out of her gilded cage. The ending did leave a good cliffhanger, so I am interested in reading the next book in the series just to see what’s going to happen next. Maybe the rest of the books in the series will include romance, as I understand the first book to any series is mainly to give background and set the tone.

To conclude this book was fast-paced, and I am interested to see how Aurelia’s character develops from this sheltered young woman into something better. I gave this book a 4/5 star rating and hope the next book will be better in the Plated Prisoner series.
