An Enchantment of Ravens is a fantasy standalone written by Margaret Rogerson. It has a beautiful cover; however, I am a little disappointed in the book.

Isobel is a portrait artist who paints portraits for the immortal fair folk. She is then tasked with having to paint Rook, the Autumn Prince. Rook discovers Isobel painted sorrow in his eyes and puts him at risk for danger. And now Miss Isobel has to stand trial for her crime. (Yeah, I don’t get that either) As they journey together for Isobel to face her crime, they soon discover something is wrong in the fae world. Isobel and Rook are being tracked and attacked. They must join together to survive, which causes room for forbidden romance to blossom.
An Enchantment Of Ravens World Building
The world building in this book wasn’t the best. I feel like the fae world and the human (Isobel’s world) could have been described better. I just jumped into this book, and the world building was pretty much not there.
There were moments in the book where there are some definitions or background on the fae creatures, but I had no idea what the buildings or areas the characters were like. The descriptions were sort of there but vague.
Characters
Isobel’s character starts off as a smart, strong-willed artist. But when she meets Rook, it’s like she turned into a different person. She literally turned into mush. By the middle of the book, I just felt like she lost her characteristics and just turned very bland and basic.
Rook… not much personality at all… like he’s supposed to be a prince… his only personality trait was that he can turn into a raven… A RAVEN!!!! I think that might be the thing I hated most about this book. I wish I had more to say about his character, but there just wasn’t much there. He wasn’t even funny. SMH.

Because Isobel painted sorrow in his eyes, she had to stand trial? This part I did not get; it felt very forced. Them going on this little “journey” was very boring to get through. The romance, BLAND. Characters, BLAND. I did like the beginning of the book, but when Rook spirited her away to stand trial, that’s where this book lost me. If there was another non-forced way the characters got together, I think it would’ve been better.
Overrall Thoughts & Review
I really wanted to like this book. Saw that it’s recommended if you liked the ACOTAR series, but no, it’s not like that at all. I tried to get through it thinking maybe it gets better, but no. I DNF at page 192/297. Maybe others would enjoy this book, but it’s just not for me. I personally gave this book a 2.5/5 stars.
